Charles Doherty was born in Clapton, London and immigrated to Australia, age 2.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Science (Zoology) from the University of Queensland, Charles went on to study a Bachelor of Performing Arts at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts where he received the Robert Finley Award for achievement upon graduation in 1995.
Charles was then invited to perform at the 1996 Barbara Cook Master Class Series, and in 1997 was awarded a Young Australian of the Year Award for the Arts.
Charles is fresh from playing Trevor Graydon in the 2005 UK tour of Thoroughly Modern Millie and Satan/Warm up man in the 2006 tour of the Jerry Spinger Opera, but other professional roles have included; Rupunsels’ Prince in Into the Woods, Willie in Flora the Red Menace, Alan in Baby, Saul in Rags, Penthius in The Bacchae, Curly in Oklahoma, Baby Face in Happy End, Herod in Jesus Christ Superstar, and the title role in the Australian tour of Noddy.
Charles has also been a member of numerous national and international touring productions including; Cameron Mackintosh’s Oliver!, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat , Peter Pan, The Merry Widow and several Disney shows.
In addition, Charles has been an artist with Opera Australia for six years in over thirty opera productions, but has also performed with many other companies including the West Australian Opera, Independent Classics, the Australian Ballet, and the Australian Broadcasting Commission. Opera credits include; Eddie in Greek, Truelove in The Rakes Progress, Marcello in La Boheme, and Antonio in Le Nozze Di Figaro, as well as Sir Despard in Ruddigore, Nanda in The Transposed Heads, and as The Forest Guardian in the 1995 world premier of The Enchanted Rainforest.
Upon returning to the UK in 2003, Charles has been heavily involved in the performing, promotion and development of entertainment packages for the corporate market.
In 2007 Charles completes a masters Degree in Electronic Publishing from City University, London and now aims to develop a career in the New Media industry.
Charles lives in London with his partner Kerri, only about five miles away from where he was born.
